October 2014 Topbox

I got my October 2014 Topbox a few days ago and I wanted to share the exciting goodies that were in it. I used to have a subscription a few years ago but gave it up when I started getting way too many repeat products. Now I’ve heard that if you get a repeat you can email customer service and they fix it for you. With that in mind I decided to re-subscribe and I have to say I couldn’t be happier with my first box!

Topbox delivers 4 deluxe beauty product samples right to your door for $12/month. It often has full size products thrown in there too, and there are some specialty boxes you can pick from as well.

The items I got in the October 2014 Topbox are pretty great. Check out my thoughts on them below!

Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micelle Solution: This makeup cleanser is great for sensitive skin and can even remove water-resistant makeup. It’s a pretty nice solution and it won an award for Chatelaine Magazine’s Beauty 100. It’s high end, good quality, and definitely something I wouldn’t purchase for myself on a regular day, but to get a deluxe sample size (100ml) is a really good treat. It retails for $21.95 for the 250ml bottle, so to get 100ml in my Topbox is a pretty great steal.

China Glaze Seas The Day Nail Polish: This is a full size polish which typically costs about $10. To get it in my Topbox is amazing, and it happens to be an awesome colour too. It’s a medium red-pink hue and it looks great for both Summer and Fall. I’ve already worn it twice and I really love how opaque it is. It’s bold without being bright, and the formula is fantastic.

Lancome Genifique Yeax Light-Pearl: This is an illuminating youth-activating serum, which is pretty fancy but not necessarily for me. I’m still young so samples like this get passed along to my mother. Still, I can’t afford Lancome products on an average day so it’s kind of nice to get to check one out without spending the big bucks. This retails for $88 for the 20ml product, and the sample size I was sent is only 5ml, but that’s still a great deal to add in the Topbox.

Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Mascara: This was the most exciting thing in the box. I adore this mascara and love getting the trial size tubes to throw in my purse. It’s Benefit’s #1 mascara and it really is no surprise why. This mascara gives me perfectly defined, dark, long lashes every time and never clumps or flakes. It’s probably the best mascara I’ve ever used and somehow I keep getting by on samples. Lucky me! You can read my past review on the mascara here. They’re Real! Mascara retails for $29 for an 8.5g tube, and the sample size I got is 3g.

The items in this month’s box had a broad range, which I like. I wouldn’t want all four to be eye products or face creams, so this one was perfect because it had a little bit of everything. To have a full size China Glaze nail polish in the box already made it worth it to me. That polish is about $10 depending where you buy it, and for me it’s pretty hard to find China Glaze polishes in any stores anyways. I also had just finished my travel size tube of Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Mascara and was debating on buying a full size one. This Topbox really hit the spot for me with those two products, and the other two were nice bonuses.

Mascara Monday: Two Products I Love For Perfectly Defined Lashes

This past weekend I did a mini-cleanup of my makeup drawers (yes, all 7 of them) and I came across a few of my favourite mascaras that I recently finished off.  These mascaras are both pretty great and I rotated them throughout my makeup routine until they ran out. Now I have another couple (more like ten) that I am switching around this season, but these past favourites will always have a special place in my heart.

One of the most well-known mascaras out there is Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Mascara, and I can absolutely see why. I had a little travel size tube that I completely ran dry and I fell in love with this mascara. This mascara was my no-fail choice that I reached for so frequently. I knew that I could swipe on two coats of this and get perfectly defined long lashes that looked so good they could be mistaken for falsies. This mascara got me tons of complements and it was perfect for an everyday full fringe. I definitely fell in love with the travel size one and I don’t know what is taking me so long to buy the full size. At almost $30 it is a little steep for my student budget but I love the results so much that I might make the plunge. You can check it out here at for more info.

Two Great Mascara Brushes L-R: Benefit Cosmetics They're Real! and L'Oreal Paris Telescopic Shocking Extensions

Two Great Mascara Brushes L-R: Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! and L’Oreal Paris Telescopic Shocking Extensions

The second mascara that I have run dry recently is the L’Oreal Paris Telescopic Shocking Extensions mascara. This mascara has a very defining brush and offers precise lashes that are long and defined. This one only costs around $10 so it’s got a price tag that makes my wallet much happier. The brush has 200 bristles so every lash gets coated and lengthened. For a clump-free formula and affordable price tag, this mascara is great option for an everyday lash look. You can check it out here at or look for it at your local drugstore.

Both of these are great choices for long lashes that are separated and stylish. No clumps or flaky formulas to be found, these two picks are perfect for defined lashes any day of the year.

Get a Gorgeous Rosy Glow With The Benefit Cosmetics Best-Seller Benetint

Benetint is the best-selling rose-tinted lip and cheek stain from Benefit Cosmetics. This stain is a staple beauty product that every woman should try at least once in her life. It’s a go-to tint for rosy cheeks and red lips, which can be layered to get softer or deeper shades.

Benetint Lip and Cheek Stain

A light swipe of Benetint over bare lips can add a subtle red hint of colour, but a few more layers can provide a pretty red stain that lasts for hours. On cheeks it can be blended to give a light rosy glow, leaving cheeks looking naturally flushed.
If you haven’t tried it yet you are definitely missing out. I carry the travel sized bottle with me at all times for an easy flush of colour whenever I’m in need. Benetint sells for $36 at

I’m Ready For Warm Weather With Benefit Cosmetics Sun Beam

Spring has started and the sun is finally shining! I’m ready for summer already but we still have a few months of Spring to get through first, and to help me get a warm weather glow I have been reaching for Benefit Cosmetics Sun Beam as an awesome highlighter/bronzer to get me through the season.

Benefit Cosmetics Sun Beam

Benefit Cosmetics refers to this highlighter as a bottle of liquid sunshine – and that is totally true! The golden glow it gives is subtle and natural, and it is super easy to apply. Benefit says ‘This golden bronze highlighter gives you a natural, sunkissed radiance. Dot & blend over makeup on to cheek & brow bones for a bronzed glow that complements all skintones. It’s liquid sunshine in a bottle!

Personally I dab it onto my fingertips first and then blend it around my cheeckbones and up beside my brows for a hint of highlight and a bit of bronzing shimmer to catch the light.

This little bottle of bronzed beauty is available at Sephora for $32. It may seem a little steep for a small bottle but you don’t need much of this product to get a gorgeous glow so it lasts a long time.
