Essie

Red and White Polish Picks

Happy Canada Day! In honour of the holiday today I decided to share my picks for some pretty red and white polishes. There are tons of red nail polishes on the market but the two red shades I’m featuring today are some of my all-time favourites.

From left to right the shades shown below are Zoya Snow White, Zoya Delilah, Essie Marshmallow, and Essie Jelly Apple.

Snow White is a great stark white that takes two to three coats for opacity. For a pure and clean white I reach for this polish.
Delilah is a sparkly medium toned red. The pretty glitter particles make this great for special occasions like Canada Day or Christmas, or for whenever you’re looking for a little something extra in your red polish.

Marshamallow is a creamy white that has a softer, milkier look than Snow White. This one is better for building on, and you can get a more translucent look with fewer layers.

Jelly Apple is a great apple red with a jelly-like finish. You can leave it semi-opaque with one or two coats, or layer it more for a bright red that will catch anyone’s attention.

All four of these are pretty polishes that are classics that you’ll use over and over, so treat yourself to a Canada Day colour and go pick one up to celebrate!

February 2014 Topbox Contents

The February 2014 Topbox is My Favourite One Yet

I’ve been a subscriber of Topbox for a few month now and have yet to be truly wowed by any boxes as a whole. Sure, there are product in each that I am really happy with, but as an entire box there has never been one with all items really impressing me. Until this month that is! The February 2014 Topbox is my favorite one I have ever received and I am so excited to show you what the products are.

You can subscribe to Topbox for $12/month, which is a really good price compared to some of the other beauty boxes out there.

This month the Topbox had an Essie nail polish which was a huge win right off the bat. Plus the colour was phenomenal – Head Mistress, a gorgeous raspberry red cream.I adore Essie polishes so this was pretty exciting to get in this month’s box. Plus Essie polishes retail for around $10 so it was almost the cost of the box by itself.

It also included an Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant which is something I have gotten in a previous Topbox and absolutely loved. I use this on my hands and they stay super moisturized and smooth for such a long time. I haven’t timed it to see it actually is 8 hours but hey, close enough! It feels super luxurious and has a bunch of other uses as well.

The next item is an Epic Blend Lip Balm which I haven’t heard of but after some quick research I saw some good reviews. I’ll have to give that a try to get my real opinion but in general I like lip balms and can never have enough of those so it seemed like a good product.

Last but not least is the So Susan Lip & Cheek Sublime. I’ve never heard of So Susan but I’m always up for a new lip colour to check out and if it doubles as a cheek stain then why not. It’s a pretty colour and I look forward to trying it out.

Overall this month the Topbox impressed me with my first look. Two of the four items I know I love so that is a great start, and the other two look pretty promising. Just when I was losing faith in Topbox it went and wowed me, so I might stick around a little longer with my subscription.

Did any of you get a Topbox this month? If so, what did you think of the products? Feel free to leave a comment and let me know!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I’m one of those girls who loves this holiday because it features a lot of pink, and I love pink. Skip the roses ans chocolate but another excuse for more pink in my life – count me in! One more pink thing I added to my day today were these adorable Valentine’s Day nails that I did.

Valentine’s Day Gradient Heart Nail Art

To get these super sweet nails I sponged on a gradient base with two shades of pink and white. Then I stamped the heart pattern over the gradient with Essie Licorice using the Bundle Monster image plate BM-317. The polishes I used for the gradient were China Glaze Dance Baby (light pink) and Fuchsia Fanatic (dark pink) from the Electropop collection a few summers back, used Sally Hansen White Out.

I think these nails look a little bit like candy hearts. They definitely fit the Valentine’s Day theme and are totally adorable. They didn’t even take too long to do! I have been having a serious gradient nail colour phase so this fits right in with that. The heart stamp is just cute enough to be pretty, but not too over the top. I really like these nails the more I look at them and don’t think I’ll be taking them off anytime soon.

What do you think of this Valentine’s Day nail art?

OPI Pink Yet Lavender glitter nail polish

A Sparkly Pink Polish That Looks Out Of This World

I’ve always been fascinated with celestial nail art.. you know the ones that look like starts and space. I’ve never tried doing on myself, and they seem like very time consuming manicures to do. I still hope to try one day but until then I found a pretty pink glitter nail polish that looks like a scene from outer space.

I layered OPI Pink Yet Lavender over Essie Licorice and came up with a stellar combination. It looks like the milky way or some starry sky. I tried it over OPI Big Apple Red as well and liked that combination too – maybe even for Valentine’s Day?

Whatever colour I tried this polish on I really liked it. Something about the tiny silver glitters and the larger pink ones made a beautiful mix together. I really like this polish and specifically adore it over a black base.

Do you think this glitter polish looks like a galaxy?
