Meghan Trainor for Clinique

Remember that super catchy song, All About That Bass, which is likely now going to be stuck in your head for the rest of the day? Well the adorable pop star singer, newcomer Meghan Trainor, has a fun new beauty collaboration coming out! Meghan Trainor for Clinique launched on Tuesday, and will be available nationwide.

Meghan sported a bright, bubbly, Barbie-like beauty look in the video and now has a nine piece collaboration with Clinique. Meghan picked her top nine lip picks, ranging from subtle nude to bubblegum pink. While Clinique is known for fun products such as the Clinique Chubby Sticks, and Meghan is known for her girly glam look, this collaboration is sure to be a hit.

She even designed a limited edition sequined clutch, which you can get with any purchase of $30 or more.

If the popularity of her songs is any indication, the Meghan Trainor for Clinique beauty collab will be just as fun and fresh. You can check out Meghan Trainor’s lipstick picks here, at clinique.com.

November 2014 Lip Monthly Subscription Review

Unfortunately my first month of LipMonthly was a disappointment to me, but I was willing to give it a second chance. The products were kind of all over the place, didn’t fit the theme, and were brands I wasn’t really interested in. You can read my first month’s review here if you’re interested.

This month I was really hoping that the November 2014 LipMonthly Bag would redeem itself and send me some awesome products, however I still don’t feel wowed by this beauty subscription box. The products in this box were supposed to be dark lip shades to pair with all the glam parties of the holiday season, and I do think they stuck to this theme better than last month. The bag was pretty cute this month, with little pink images of cosmetics on the pretty red bag.

Here’s what was in the November 2014 LipMonthly bag:

November 2014 LipMonthly Products

Ofra Lipliner: This lip liner looked pretty basic, in a nude/pink shade which I thought was strange to pair with the darker lipsticks. In general though it is a staple item and I probably will use this lip liner once in a while.

Hikari Lipstick: This lipstick was in the shade Cabernet, a deep red shade with a hint of berry. I like the colour and the chic square tube was neat, but it had a bit of a waxy or plastic-like scent that I really didn’t like.

NYC Expert Last Lipstick: This NYC lipstick was the only brand I had ever heard of before, which was nice to see something familiar. The shade is Purple Crush, a frosty berry shade. I’m glad there was a brand I knew and the lipstick was nice, but unfortunately nothing special.

Crown Lip Brush: I don;t typically use lip brushes but sometimes they are useful so it was a nice touch to add this item.

City Color Cosmetics White Gold Shadow & Highlighting Mousse: Every month there is one non-lip item added to the bag. This one was a really shimmery mousse shadow which was nice and festive for the holidays.

Overall the products just didn’t wow me and I think I will be cancelling my subscription. I gave it two chances but LipMonthly just isn’t the right fit for me. I would rather spend my subscription money on one or two lip products that I know I’ll love.

What about you, are you a fan of LipMonthly or do you have a different subscription you prefer?

The October 2014 LipMonthly Beauty Bag Products

Better Late Than Never! My First LipMonthly Review: October 2014

October is actually over now (Happy November!) and I am a little late on this, but I wanted to share my thoughts on my first ever LipMonthly bag. I had been hearing about this beauty box subscription service for a while now, and as a lip product lover I figured it was worth a shot. Unfortunately this is sort of a mixed review, but I will be giving it another shot next month and hoping for better results.

The first thing I noticed about the LipMonthly package was the cute little makeup bag it came in. I’m always finding new uses for those so I was happy to get a new one. The second thing I noticed was the awful plastic smell of the bag, which really started my review off in the wrong direction. The makeup bag smelt really strongly of fake plastic and it was so unpleasant that I had to leave it in my closet for a few days before I could take another look.

The October 2014 LipMonthly Beauty Bag

Once the smell dies down a bit I was able to check out the products inside. Most of them are brands I had never even heard of before, which can sometimes be a good thing. Sometimes you can be introduced to cool new products or great brands that aren’t available in your area. With these products I was a little let down. Nothing really struck me as that exciting, except for the L.A. Girl eyeliner. Each bag has a non-lip product included and it is a little disappointing that in a lip product package the one thing I liked most wasn’t even a lip product.

The theme of this month’s bag was nude lips, so all of the below items are meant to fit that theme. Here’s what I got in my first LipMonthly bag:

Starlooks Lip Scrub: The idea of a lip scrub is great but this one just seemed like brown sugar in a little jar. I was really hoping for something classier or more fancy looking, but the idea of adding a lip scrub was a good thought.

Noyah Lip Balm: I have mixed feelings on this. I can always use another lip balm especially with the colder weather, but it’s clear so how does that work for a nude lip look? The instruction card said to apply clear balm and then remove it before applying lipstick, which makes the balm seem a little irrelevant to me.

JCat Nude Lipstick: It’s a nice colour but again a brand I have never heard of an probably will never see again.

deVine Lip Shimmer: This was pretty interesting. It’s a sheer and shimmery plum lip balm and I actually think i will use this. However it is plum so I have to ask again, how does that work with the nude lip look?

L.A. Girl Eyeliner: This was added to compliment a nude lip with a smoky eye, which is always a good idea. I’m sure I’ll use a basic like this eyeliner so it was nice to have that included.

Overall I just feel very underwhelmed. I was hoping for something more similar to Topbox with brands I know and love, but these were all quite obscure. Maybe I just had too high of expectations for this beauty bag, so I am giving it another shot next month to see if my opinion changes.

Did any of you get a LipMonthly bag this month? What did you think of the products? Or have you heard of these brands and I’m just living under a rock? Leave a comment and let me know!

Revlon Jet Set Into Fall: Get The London Look

Revlon Jet Set For Fall: The London Look

All of the products needed for the Revlon Jet Set For Fall: The London Look

Revlon has a bunch of great (and affordable) makeup products but sometimes it can be tricky to pull it all together into a look. Luckily for us the awesome Revlon team has come up with some city-inspired looks that can give you the hottest trends for Fall in just a few simple steps. The looks are themed after famous travel destinations like London, Paris, and New York. I have the London look to share with you today, and it’s definitely something I can rock anywhere I am this season!

Be a London Lady

To get the London Lady look it’s an intense smokey eye paired with a natural lip. This is a trend that never goes out of style so you can rock this long after Fall. The products featured in this look are the following, and I have reviewed each one individually:

Revlon ColorStay ShadowLinks in Onyx and Gunmetal: These shadows come in little blocks that can be linked together to create your own custom palette. The shimmer in both Onyx and Gunmetal is to die for, and although they don’t last for hours the colours are really great. I would recommend a primer underneath to make these shadows stick around, but these shades are probably two of the best ones in the ShadowLinks lineup.

Revlon ColorStay Skinny Liquid Liner: For a super thin eyeliner this is the one to try. It has a tapered tip that pffers precision and fine lines, so your smokey eye will be perfectly defined.

Revlon Bold Lacquer Mascara: I just reviewed this one last week and am still in love with how quick and easy it is to apply. This makes a great everyday mascara but can be amped up with the rest of the smoky eye look to create more dramatic and dark lashes. You can read my full review on the mascara here.

Revlon ColorStay Moisture Stain in London Posh: I’ve tried these in a few different shades, which you can check out here. London Posh is a gorgeous peach shade that has a subtle gold shimmer to it. It feels smooth and soft on the lips and offers a hydrating stain with lots of shine.

To add to your look you can try the Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy Nail Polish in High Stakes, a bright teal shade, or All Or Nothing, a pretty soft pink.

The recommended London look is a bold smoky eye and neutral lip, which is a classic combination no matter where you are. Day or night, Fall or Summer, London or Paris – this look is one that I will be rocking all the time thanks to Revlon!

Berry Lips: Beautiful Lip Products That Are Perfect For Fall

The weather is getting crisp and cool, and that means it’s time for sweater weather and dark lipstick! It’s sad to say summer is officially over but I’m pretty excited about cozy clothes and boots so it’s not that bad. Aside from Fall fashions I also am excited about the other things Fall brings – lots of tea, movie nights with my man, and of course Fall beauty trends!

One of the biggest changes for Fall beauty is the darker lipsticks that come out. Beautiful berry shades start popping up when the weather gets cold, and to get you ready for this pretty Fall trend I have rounded up a bunch of beautiful berry shades you should check out!

Keep in mind that berry shades can range in tone from being more purple-based or red, so check out which ones you like best for your skin tone. Both are equally as pretty but some berry hues can end up looking more like grape juice instead of wine.

Sephora Collection Nano Lip Pencil in 09 Pleasant Plum: This nano lip liner is perfect to outline one of the pretty berry lipsticks below, or to use as a full coverage product. Using a lip liner all over your lips will make it last longer than regular lipstick. Check out this super-pigmented lip liner here.

L’Oreal Paris Colour Caresse Wet Shine Stain in 186 Berry Persistent: This lipstick stain is glossy and wet looking, but lasts for hours. It’s hydrating and packed with pigment so you get the best of both worlds – a lasting stain and a lightweight gloss. Check it out here to learn more.

Maybelline New York ColorSensational Lip Color in 410 Blissful Berry: This is a traditional lipstick that is super opaque and smooth. It applies like a dream and delivers a bold punch of colour in one simple swipe. Check out this creamy lipstick here.

CoverGirl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm in 255 Jam Twist: This gloss and balm hybrid is moisturizing. light, and extremely smooth. It’s more sheer than a lipstick but still offers the right shade of berry in a less opaque product. Check out my review of these balms here.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Matte Lipstick by Kate Moss in 107: This matte lipstick lasts for hours and looks amazing. It has a smooth formula and intense colour that looks great with the matte finish. The Kate Moss lipsticks are my go-to lip products and this one is no exception. Check out my full post on these lipsticks here.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate Moss in 09: This is like the non-matte twin sister of the Kate Moss Matte lipstick. This is another beautiful berry shade that has the same smooth formula and long-lasting pigment. Another perfect lip product from the Rimmel London lineup. Check it out here.

Pro Tip: If you’re worried about looking too much like Lorde you can lighten up any lipstick by dabbing it on with your fingers instead of applying it directly.

Get The Look: Rachel Bilson on Hart of Dixie

Get The Look: Rachel Bilson on Hart of Dixie

Hart of Dixie, starring Rachel Bilson

I just started binge-watching another show on Netflix and all I can focus on is the main character’s makeup. The show is Hart of Dixie, starring the adorable Rachel Bilson. Not only is she a total style icon (hello, dressy shorts!) but her makeup looks always make me want to press pause and whip out my eyeliner.

Rachel Bilson has brown hair and brown eyes, just like me, and I think that’s why I relate to her looks so much. I feel like I can actually try them myself. Jamie King, the other female lead in Hart of Dixie, is a blonde, blue-eyed beauty, and as much as I love her Southern belle looks, I know they would look much different on me.

After watching a few episodes (okay.. binge-watching season one in a few days) I have come to love the makeup looks Zoe Hart rocks. Even in a small town she has her eyeliner game on point and always has a great neutral lipstick. In addition to some great pictures of Dr. Zoe Hart, I’ve also complied a few products to help get the adorable, sassy, doe-eyed look that Rachel Bilson rocks on the show.

To get her heavily lined eye look I would recommend a smooth gel-like liner that is easy to blend and smudge. A great option for this is the L’Oreal Paris Infallible Silkissime Eyeliner. This creamy liner is a breeze to apply and can be blended for a smooth, smoky look.

For full lashes like Dr. Zoe Hart, try the Maybelline New York The Falsies Volum’ Express Mascara. The curved brush gets every lash and the falsies-inspired formula offers lots of volume and length.

Dr. Zoe Hart always has glowing skin and you can get the same rosy glow and a subtle bronzing with one just product, Maybelline New York Dream Bouncy Blush in Coffee Cake. This golden-hued blush is a great way to add a slight highlight to cheekbones without going for a super-girly pink shade.

To get the neutral lip looks that Rachel rocks try one of the CoverGirl Jumbo Gloss Balms. These sheer gloss balms come in 16 pretty shades so you can find the perfect one for your everyday look. You can check out my review of them here for more information.

So there you have it. An easy how-to to get the adorable look that Dr. Zoe Hart, a.k.a. style icon Rachel Bilson, wears on Hart of Dixie. Now I’m only on season one so far so don’t tell me any spoilers but let me know if you watch this show too!

333 Rose des Nymphes is a medium toned pink that looks great for an everyday shade. It isn’t too dark or too light and have the perfect amount of shimmer.

357 Bouqet Final is a fuchsia toned pink that has the slightest purple hint to it. It’s more bold and berry-like than the others but has the same pretty shimmer and high-shine.

All three of these glide on super easily, last quite a few hours, and feel super smooth on my lips. They feel like a hybrid lipgloss-lip balm because they have a glossy texture and look but they feel smooth and soft like a balm. There’s no sticky or heavy feeling, which is very important to me.
