Three Pretty Nail Polish Shades For Spring

Spring is coming (slowly but surely) and I am really excited about the new beauty launches it brings. With warmer weather we tend to reach for brighter and lighter colours, and I love the new nail polish shades that are hitting the shelves for next season.

To me, Spring reminds me of grass, blue skies, and bright flowers. The Body Shop Colour Crush nail polish totally embodies that image and brings to life some bold Spring shades that I can’t wait to wear.

From a pop of yellow to a range of blues, the new nail polish line has a range of upbeat shades that will be great for Spring. As with the other Colour Crush polishes I’ve tried, the formula is smooth and flawless. It applies easily and dries quickly, and gives a great shine even without a topcoat. Most shades are pretty opaque and two coats will do just fine.

I have three pretty shades to show you that are just perfect for Spring. Mad About Blue is a gorgeous bold blue shade that looks like an ocean. It’s bright and has a pop of colour but it still looks chic. Apricot Kiss is a medium to light orange hue, and it hits the spot right in between subtlety and notice me. Sunny Affair is a bold yellow with little flecks of golden shimmer. It’s a bright one and it will definitely draw attention.

You can see all of the Colour Crush polishes here at thebodyshop.ca and pick your perfect Spring shade!

Formula X Nail Polish Is Amazing!

I just tried my very first Formula X Nail Colour last night and I am so impressed with it! I had always seen the brand while browsing at Sephora but I never really paid any attention to it. The other day I made an order online and there was a Formula X shade in the sale section that was calling my name so I added it to my cart. I didn’t know what to expect but now that I have tried it I am really impressed.

The shade I got is called Impeccable and it’s described as a cocoa bisque on the Sephora site. It actually is a soft, pale mauve shade which is really nice and neutral. It isn’t quite nude but it has a bit of a pink/beige tone to it. You can check out all of the shades here at sephora.ca.

The formula is what really blew me away. For such a light colour I was anticipating a few coats to get it opaque but with one coat it was perfect. The formula was smooth and applied so easily. It was pretty much a one stroke wonder. It also dried super fast and even though I bumped my nail about 30 seconds after painting it, there was no dent, scratch, smudge, or anything!

With a crazy fast formula, flawless application, and a huge range of colours I will definitely be picking up more Formula X Nail Colour soon.

The Body Shop Colour Crush Nail Polish: One Coat Wonder

One of the greatest things in a beauty-addict’s world is when you find a nail polish that only needs one coat. It’s a simple thing but it makes manicures so much faster and easier. It doesn’t happen often, but sometimes a great formula comes along and really wows me, and The Body Shop Colour Crush Nail Polish definitely has that wow-factor.

The Body Shop Colour Crush Nail Polish line has 24 shades of bright, bold, and basic colours. From classic nudes to bold berry tones, this nail polish has something for everyone. And the best part is the formula! The three polishes I have tried were all one coat wonders. The formula was the perfect blend of creamy opaque colour and it was such a breeze to brush on a single coat and be done.

Oh yeah, one more bonus about these nail polishes – they’re vegan!

The three shades I’m showing you are Smoky Rose, a basic black, Deeply In Love, a medium toned berry fuchsia, and Almond Kiss, a light nude beige. All three of these had great formulas and are really shiny without a top coat.
I was really impressed with these nail polishes from The Body Shop since I typically associate that brand with only body products. Now that I know how great these polishes are I am definitely interested in trying more makeup from The Body Shop.

The Three Best Halloween Nail Polishes

One of the best nail polish brands out there is the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri line. The polishes are awesome opaque colours and dry in 60 seconds. They only need two coats (sometimes even one if you’re lucky) and they always deliver bold pigmented shades. I love how quick and convenient they are, and the range of colours is really great. You can see the whole line of shades here.

The Sally Hansen Limited Edition Insta-Dri Halloween Collection consists of three perfect polishes for the holiday. They are only $4.95 each so you’ll have to scoop them up quickly before they’re gone. The three shades are  Pumpkin Queen, a perfect medium-toned orange, Night Fright, a shiny jet black, and OMGhost, a crisp bright white.

They’re all awesome on their own but they can also be used for some cute Halloween nail art ideas. I’m thinking a ghost with the white and black for the eyes, or a jack-o-lantern with the orange and black.

All three of them are super opaque and only needed two coats for perfection. I probably could have gotten away with just one quick coat but I was being extra careful so I went with two. The brush is pretty large and has a rounded tip, which I love. It covers my whole nail in one stroke so application couldn’t be easier!

October 2014 Topbox

I got my October 2014 Topbox a few days ago and I wanted to share the exciting goodies that were in it. I used to have a subscription a few years ago but gave it up when I started getting way too many repeat products. Now I’ve heard that if you get a repeat you can email customer service and they fix it for you. With that in mind I decided to re-subscribe and I have to say I couldn’t be happier with my first box!

Topbox delivers 4 deluxe beauty product samples right to your door for $12/month. It often has full size products thrown in there too, and there are some specialty boxes you can pick from as well.

October 2014 Topbox Contents

The items I got in the October 2014 Topbox are pretty great. Check out my thoughts on them below!

Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micelle Solution: This makeup cleanser is great for sensitive skin and can even remove water-resistant makeup. It’s a pretty nice solution and it won an award for Chatelaine Magazine’s Beauty 100. It’s high end, good quality, and definitely something I wouldn’t purchase for myself on a regular day, but to get a deluxe sample size (100ml) is a really good treat. It retails for $21.95 for the 250ml bottle, so to get 100ml in my Topbox is a pretty great steal.

China Glaze Seas The Day Nail Polish: This is a full size polish which typically costs about $10. To get it in my Topbox is amazing, and it happens to be an awesome colour too. It’s a medium red-pink hue and it looks great for both Summer and Fall. I’ve already worn it twice and I really love how opaque it is. It’s bold without being bright, and the formula is fantastic.

Lancome Genifique Yeax Light-Pearl: This is an illuminating youth-activating serum, which is pretty fancy but not necessarily for me. I’m still young so samples like this get passed along to my mother. Still, I can’t afford Lancome products on an average day so it’s kind of nice to get to check one out without spending the big bucks. This retails for $88 for the 20ml product, and the sample size I was sent is only 5ml, but that’s still a great deal to add in the Topbox.

Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Mascara: This was the most exciting thing in the box. I adore this mascara and love getting the trial size tubes to throw in my purse. It’s Benefit’s #1 mascara and it really is no surprise why. This mascara gives me perfectly defined, dark, long lashes every time and never clumps or flakes. It’s probably the best mascara I’ve ever used and somehow I keep getting by on samples. Lucky me! You can read my past review on the mascara here. They’re Real! Mascara retails for $29 for an 8.5g tube, and the sample size I got is 3g.

The items in this month’s box had a broad range, which I like. I wouldn’t want all four to be eye products or face creams, so this one was perfect because it had a little bit of everything. To have a full size China Glaze nail polish in the box already made it worth it to me. That polish is about $10 depending where you buy it, and for me it’s pretty hard to find China Glaze polishes in any stores anyways. I also had just finished my travel size tube of Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Mascara and was debating on buying a full size one. This Topbox really hit the spot for me with those two products, and the other two were nice bonuses.

Do you subscribe to Topbox? Did you like your box this month?  Leave a comment and let me know!

NOTD: Thanksgiving Turkey Nail Art

Happy Thanksgiving weekend to all my Canadian readers! I hope you’re spending the weekend enjoying some delicious food and fun times with your family and friends.

You might not know this about me. but I’m a vegetarian, so these nails are the closet I get to a turkey this season. They’re pretty cute  and for somebody who isn’t very artistic, I think they turned out pretty well.

Thanksgiving Turkey Nail Art

For the base colours I used a variety of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri nail polishes. These are great for quick drying colours that are really opaque and bold. The shades I used are Sizzlin’ Saffron (yellow), Pumpkin Queen (orange), Surspice! (red), OMGhost (white), and Moracc-go (brown). I used each of these as a base for one of the nails and then layered the solid colours with a subtle gold glitter.

For the turkey nail I used Misa Nail Art Pens to make the turkey feathers. The two shades I used were 01 Crazy For Bananas for the yellow and 17 Gold Rush for the gold. Once I did a few swipes of the feathers I let that dry. Then I used an eraser on the back of a pencil, dipped in the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri brown shade to create the turkey body. When the body was dry I used a dotting tool in both black and white for the eyes, and orange for the beak.

He’s pretty cute if I do say so myself. He has a cartoon-like look and I know my little cousins will love him when I see them for Thanksgiving. This is the only nail art I’ve ever done for Thanksgiving, but now it got me pretty excited to look for more ideas for next year.

What do you guys think of these turkey nails?
