November 2014 Lip Monthly Subscription Review

Unfortunately my first month of LipMonthly was a disappointment to me, but I was willing to give it a second chance. The products were kind of all over the place, didn’t fit the theme, and were brands I wasn’t really interested in. You can read my first month’s review here if you’re interested.

This month I was really hoping that the November 2014 LipMonthly Bag would redeem itself and send me some awesome products, however I still don’t feel wowed by this beauty subscription box. The products in this box were supposed to be dark lip shades to pair with all the glam parties of the holiday season, and I do think they stuck to this theme better than last month. The bag was pretty cute this month, with little pink images of cosmetics on the pretty red bag.

Here’s what was in the November 2014 LipMonthly bag:

Ofra Lipliner: This lip liner looked pretty basic, in a nude/pink shade which I thought was strange to pair with the darker lipsticks. In general though it is a staple item and I probably will use this lip liner once in a while.

Hikari Lipstick: This lipstick was in the shade Cabernet, a deep red shade with a hint of berry. I like the colour and the chic square tube was neat, but it had a bit of a waxy or plastic-like scent that I really didn’t like.

NYC Expert Last Lipstick: This NYC lipstick was the only brand I had ever heard of before, which was nice to see something familiar. The shade is Purple Crush, a frosty berry shade. I’m glad there was a brand I knew and the lipstick was nice, but unfortunately nothing special.

Crown Lip Brush: I don;t typically use lip brushes but sometimes they are useful so it was a nice touch to add this item.

City Color Cosmetics White Gold Shadow & Highlighting Mousse: Every month there is one non-lip item added to the bag. This one was a really shimmery mousse shadow which was nice and festive for the holidays.

Overall the products just didn’t wow me and I think I will be cancelling my subscription. I gave it two chances but LipMonthly just isn’t the right fit for me. I would rather spend my subscription money on one or two lip products that I know I’ll love.

What about you, are you a fan of LipMonthly or do you have a different subscription you prefer?

The Body Shop Colour Crush Nail Polish: One Coat Wonder

One of the greatest things in a beauty-addict’s world is when you find a nail polish that only needs one coat. It’s a simple thing but it makes manicures so much faster and easier. It doesn’t happen often, but sometimes a great formula comes along and really wows me, and The Body Shop Colour Crush Nail Polish definitely has that wow-factor.

The Body Shop Colour Crush Nail Polish line has 24 shades of bright, bold, and basic colours. From classic nudes to bold berry tones, this nail polish has something for everyone. And the best part is the formula! The three polishes I have tried were all one coat wonders. The formula was the perfect blend of creamy opaque colour and it was such a breeze to brush on a single coat and be done.

Oh yeah, one more bonus about these nail polishes – they’re vegan!

The three shades I’m showing you are Smoky Rose, a basic black, Deeply In Love, a medium toned berry fuchsia, and Almond Kiss, a light nude beige. All three of these had great formulas and are really shiny without a top coat.
I was really impressed with these nail polishes from The Body Shop since I typically associate that brand with only body products. Now that I know how great these polishes are I am definitely interested in trying more makeup from The Body Shop.
If you’re looking for that one coat wonder, or want to add in a few pretty polishes to a holiday gift, check out the full line of Colour Crush Nail Polish (only $6 each) at thebodyshop.ca.

Essence How To Make Nude Eyes Make-Up Box

Check Out The Cute New Essence How To Make Nude Eyes Make-Up Box

I have the cutest new make-up box to show you! It’s the new Essence How To Make Nude Eyes palette and it has six great neutral eye shadows, a dual-ended sponge applicator, and two ‘get the look’ cards. This eye shadow palette is absolutely adorable and costs only $10!

Essence is such a cute brand and all of their items are packaged so pretty. They also are super affordable so it’s a great brand to get into if you’re looking for some new cosmetics.

The six shadows in the How To Make Nude Eyes box are actually quite varied, which is nice for nude shades. I tend to find nude palettes are typically too similar in shadow colours but this one had a nice range.

Eye Light Beige is a light and shimmer champagne colour. Go For Gold is a medium toned warm gold shadow with shimmer. An Eye On Apricot is a peach-hued neutral with the least amount of shimmer of the six. All About Nude is a medium brown tone with a hint of grey or purple to it. Nude Night Out is the darkest of the six and it’s a deep chocolate brown shimmer. Team Nude is a light/medium brown that seems to be the most basic shadow of the six.

All of the shadows apply smoothly and have nice pigmentation. They all have shimmer, which I like, and they have quite a bit of dimension to them. They blend well and can be layered.

Nude Lips: Check Out These Classic Nude Lipsticks You’ll Love

Nude lips are a staple beauty look since they pair well with a lot of other looks. You can go for an all-over light look with a neutral eye and nude lip, or you can draw the attention to a bold smoky eye and leave the lips nude as contrast. Whichever way you rock it, a nude lipstick is a classic choice.

I recently rounded up my favourite berry lipsticks for Fall, which you can check out here, and it was such a hit that I decided to pull out my best nude lipsticks too. I personally like to pair a nude lipstick with a super dramatic and dark eye look, so I have quite a few favourites that you might like to check out. See my perfect nude lipstick picks (and pics) below!

Tarte LipSurgence Matte Lip Tint in Exposed: This is a lovely lip crayon from Tarte that is a gorgeous nude in a matte formula. Nude lips look great in matte finishes, and this one is definitely a high-quality choice. It applies fairly smoothly and lasts for a while, and even though it’s matte it doesn’t feel dry or heavy.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate Moss Lipstick in 03: If you’ve been reading The Beauty Badger for longer than a week you’ve probably seen me raving about this lipstick line. I’m so obsessed with these Kate Moss lippies and have them in all kinds of shades, both matte and cream finish. This one is a great nude shade that isn’t too dark or too light. It’s pretty close to my natural lip colour and it goes well with my skin tone, so this is the one I use most frequently. Check out my post on the rest of these lipsticks here.

L’Oreal Paris Nude Couture Collection in 610 Eva’s Nude: Eva’s Nude is inspired by the beautiful L’Oreal Paris spokeswoman Eva Longoria (shout-out to all the Desperate Housewives fans reading this!) and is part of the L’Oreal Paris Nude Couture Collection. This collection featured matching nude lipsticks and nail polishes each of the spokeswomen, including Eva, Doutzen Kroes, and Jennifer Lopez. Eva’s Nude is my personal favourite of the lipsticks but there are a variety of shades to match different skin tones. You can even check out the matching nail polishes in my review here.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in 025 Sky Line Pink: Although this says pink in the name I would consider it a very light nude. It’s a pearl finish so there’s some shimmer to it, and it’s the lightest of my picks, but I like ti because it’s different. Instead of the normal nude lip this one offers a bit of a twist with a lighter look and some added sparkle to it.

Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick in 700 Nude Delight: This moisturizing lipstick is soft, shiny, and smells great. It has a fresh scent that i quite enjoy, and feels super light and creamy to apply. This lipstick really does feel hydrating and it’s a great choice for an affordable product that looks and feels like it should be much more expensive. Check out all the Moisture Renew shades here.

Nude lipsticks come in a wide variety of shades because everyone has a different ‘nude’ colour. You can find one to match yours perfectly or go for something a little lighter or darker, depending on your preferences. Or you can try them all like I do and have endless options for a classic nude lip!

Pro Tip: A perfect partner for a nude lip is a serious smokey eye, so grab your best black eyeliner and smudge away for a sexy, smoldering stare to compliment your classic lipstick!

Is there another nude lipstick that you adore? Did you find your perfect nude shade? I’m always looking for new products suggestions so leave a comment and let me know your favourite nude lippie!

My One True Lipstick Love: The Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate Moss Lipsticks

When you find a good lipstick you’ve gotta stick with it, right? I found my one true lipstick love a few years ago and have been using it multiple times a week ever since. It started with one perfect bright red, and my collection has now grown to include purple, fuchsia, and even a nude shade in the same formula. The Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate Moss lipsticks are my all-time favourite lipstick line and I am one hundred percent obsessed with them.

Currently I have 8 of the regular shades and 3 matte ones in my collection, however I’m sure I’ll add to those soon enough. These lipsticks have an incredible formula, an amazing colour range, and a fresh sweet scent too! They also last for hours and feel great on my lips. They aren’t drying and they apply super smoothly, what more could you want from a lipstick? Oh, and did you notice the chic black tube with the red Kate Moss signature on the cap! I can’t help but feel just a little fancier whenever I pull one of these out of my purse.

If I could only have one lipstick brand for the rest of my life, this would be it. That’s a heavy statement but it’s totally true.

From left to right the shades shown swatched on my arm as as follows: 10, 01, 04, 06, 03, 09, 11, and 12. Don’t ask about the strange order… my arm is a lot shorter than I thought it was.

All of these shades are phenomenal and I wear them often, but a few stand out as my go-to shades for a Friday night downtown, a date with my boyfriend, or an important event like an interview.

Shade 01 is the ultimate red lipstick and I know I can quickly swipe that on for any evening out. This one is a staple in my purse and pretty much my most-used lipstick of all time.

Shade 04 is the incredible purple that can turn amp up any outfit and add some seriously chic edge in an instant. This one is less frequently used, but when it is it’s a show-stopper for sure.

Shade 12 is a fresh orange/coral colour that is great for Spring and Summer. It’s bright and pretty but not too crazy or demanding like the red or purple.

With their incredible formula and great range of shades these Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate Moss lipsticks are seriously something to check out. If you don’t already have one (or 8) then you need to get out there right now and pick one up.

L'Oreal Paris Nude Couture Collection

L’Oreal Paris Nude Couture Collection Preview

I happen to really love nude coloured cosmetics but I have hard time finding my match because I have quite tanned skin. Nude lipsticks tend to be too light on me normally, and they look like a mistake, however with the upcoming L’Oreal Paris Nude Couture Collection coming to Canada in June I have high hopes for finding my perfect match.
